Effective Modes of Conceptual Teaching and Learning in Pakistan: An Undergraduate Medical Students’ Perspective

Background: There are more than 50 medical colleges in Punjab, and the traditional mode of teaching is ‘teacher dominant’, while students passive learners. The curriculum prescribed by University Of Health Sciences (UHS) emphasizes on theoretical knowledge subjects along with extensive memorization, but less stress concept building development learning skills. Although modes adopted institutes, about students’ perspective regarding skills utmost necessary to improve methods Aim: To assess perception effective teaching, strategies. Methods: study involved a total 378 male female from MBBS, BDS DPT sessions structured questionnaire was given each student after taking consent, modalities were rated using Likert scale. Results: Out students, 62% females, 38% males, among these 43% residing hostels, 57% day scholars. Illustration concepts white board 61.2%, interactive sessions/tutorials 46.1%, demonstrations teacher 34%, power point presentation lectures multi-media 25% small group discussion 6.5%. Conclusions: White considered as most tool for (61.2%), followed (46.1%). Power lecture 2nd least method (25%), discussions modality (6.5%). Keywords: Conceptual
